Dear
Bulldogs Employers,
First,
let me thank you for being a part of this exciting internship program.
We look forward to delivering to your organization a bright,
motivated Yale student and a positive work experience for both.
I
wanted to give you an idea of what to expect in the next few
months as we all prepare for the summer.
January-Mid
February
- The web is
"live" and accepting student applications. Many of you have
already received applications via e-mail. You are encouraged to
contact students within a few days of receiving an application.
- Offers to students are
rolling. To ensure securing the best candidate, employers are encouraged
to conduct phone interviews with the student within two days of receiving
the application. An offer should be extended as soon the Employer is sure
who they would like to hire. It is important to remember that many
students are applying to multiple positions, including positions in
Bulldogs programs in other cities. It can become competitive, so it is
important for Employers to be timely in their phone interviews and offers.
Please do not wait until the
February deadline to make your selection.
- Once an Employer
has chosen a student, the Employer should complete the “Commitment
Letter,” found under the “Employer Forms and Information" link
on the left hand side of the home page of the Bulldogs on the Lakes
website: www.bulldogsonthelakes.com. It is titled "Employer Commitment Letter." Students have 48 hours to
accept/decline the job offer by filling out the required information
on the Commitment Letter and returning it to the Employer and Bulldogs on
the Lakes program administrators.
- February 29, 2008
is the deadline for student applications. If you have not chosen an
intern, please finish the interview process and make your selections.
March
- All job commitments
should be final by March 9, 2008. Experience has shown that once the students leave for
spring break (March 3), it is difficult to reach them and many have
started making other plans for the summer.
April
- Founder Rowan
Claypool will meet with Bulldogs on the Lakes interns at Yale.
May
- Employers will
attend a Supervisor’s meeting where they will receive important
information about the summer. It will include important days off the
interns will need to participate in Minneapolis/St. Paul
community immersion activities.
- Employers contact
students to share information about travel to work (especially if they
will need a parking pass), dress code, work hours, employment
expectations, etc.
- Memorial weekend -
May 26-27. Students arrive and move into housing. Their first day of
work will be Tuesday, May 29th.
